How many satoshis are in a bitcoin?
100,000,000. A satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC and is the smallest unit the Bitcoin protocol represents. To convert, multiply BTC by 100 million for sats, or divide sats by 100 million for BTC.
Where does this price come from?
mempool.space, the same free public source the BitHedge app uses. Our server fetches it every few minutes and serves the same cached number to everyone, so your browser never contacts a price API and no request here is attributable to you.
Is this converter accurate for a transaction?
The sats and BTC conversion is exact — it is fixed arithmetic. The fiat value is indicative only: it is a spot price refreshed every few minutes, and what you actually get from an exchange depends on their spread, fees, and the moment you trade.
Why do wallets show amounts in sats instead of BTC?
Because 42,000 sats is much harder to misread by a factor of ten than 0.00042 BTC, and because network fees are quoted in satoshis per virtual byte. Counting in whole satoshis is also what the protocol does internally.
